I feel the hands-on will help develop my experience. I am willing to relocate anywhere in Illinois near the city. Illinois was where I resided before I joined the service. I lived in the SW burbs near midway and am looking for a farm position where I can still be close to family. Thank you. Lisa

Sola Gratia Farm is looking for part-time help in the field this season! Do you like working outside? Do you like working hard and seeing results? Do you want to be part of a community food system that focuses on growing quality, healthful products and making them accessible to everyone? Then come check us out! Sola Gratia Farm is a mission-based farm dedicated to producing locally-grown, high-quality, natural produce. Along with selling its produce through a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and other markets, the farm is committed to helping those who lack adequate food resources by donating at least ten percent of its produce to support regional hunger programs, such as the Eastern Illinois Food Bank. Farm hands will participate in all aspects of production. This includes greenhouse seeding, field planting, hand and mechanical weeding, harvesting, wash/pack, and distribution to the community. Farm hands will be working side-by-side with volunteers, and in some cases may be leading crews, so good people skills and ability to lead by example is important. More hours and financial bonuses may be available to people who do good work and are willing and able to take on more responsibility. Skills desired: Prior experience on a production-oriented farm is helpful but not required. What’s more important is that you are honest, communicative, and have a good attitude and work-ethic. You will be a representative of Sola Gratia Farm, so maintaining a positive and professional demeanor even in difficult situations is essential. You must be able to take direction, pay attention to detail, and work with a sense of urgency when the pressure is on. It is also important to be in good physical condition; you must be able to lift 50lbs repeatedly and be prepared to work outside for hours at a time, sometimes in extreme conditions, doing physically demanding work. Educational Opportunities: This is not an internship, as we do not have a set educational component. That said, we will make every effort to thoroughly answer any production-related questions and share any educational resources that we have access to. Even though this is not an internship, there is still great potential for learning about local food production. As with any educational opportunity, you get out what you put in. Compensation and Hours: The starting wage is $8.75 per hour, with 15-30 hours a week available. The right candidate may be able to get more hours and increase their wage if they show that they can get results and have the desire to take on more responsibility. Along with financial compensation, and learning opportunities, farm hands can earn access to food from the farm. These are the freshest, highest quality veggies around, and preference will be given to people who see the value in this and will work hard for this benefit. To apply, please send a cover letter to solagratiacsa@gmail.com or Sola Gratia Farm, 2200 South Philo Rd, Urbana, IL, 61802.
