Becky
Becky, one of our first-year Farm Beginnings graduates, is actively looking for farmland near Quincy. Her goal is to rejuvenate and restore an old farm, and to use the land to grow fruits and vegetables for her family and her community.

Farmland Match

Presently there are few resources that help farmers find land at economical prices. Many of the next generation of farmers are interested in establishing sustainable and ultimately organic farm operations to grow food for local consumption. Conventional farm lease agreements and financing systems today are not designed to support these innovative and emerging farming practices.

The Land Connection’s Farmland Match program provides a vital link between farmers and farmland. The Land Connection, which has a proven track record with organic farming and understands it from a cash flow and business perspective, can help farmers and landowners overcome these market, economic, and institutional barriers. The match arrangements are flexible, and may range from purchase, to lease-to-own, to yearly or long-term leasing. The program we are developing is based on the successful model created by Woodbury County, Iowa.

If you have farmland you’d like to be farmed sustainably, or if you are looking for farmland to farm, please contact us.

Posts will be deleted three months after posting date. Please contact us to re-post your listing.

FOR SALE: Organic Coop Farm - Farmhouse/Farmer Share Available!

Location: Dane County, WI - 20 miles west of Madison

Posting date: 11/08/07

Cress Spring Farm Coop, Inc. is a three-way land coop partnership. The Farmhouse share is for sale for $450,000. Includes co-ownership of 110 acres of wild and agricultural land, 100% ownership of large beautiful farmhouse with passive solar, wood heat, radiant heat, hardwood floors, tons of common areas and approximately 80% of a solid old barn. Barn has a fairly new roof and a food processing room with three stainless sinks and tiled floor with a floor drain. There are two old silos as well as other outbuildings. Currently, I have an old tractor, a commercial refrigerator, chest freezers, an old farm truck and a tiller and other tools that could easily come with a sale.

We are also open to selling shares of our share and retaining a share of our house. (each ¼ share would have 2-3 private rooms and share the common areas within the house with other owners.) No current owners within the coop have any desires to farm so farming rights would be available to any owner who wanted them for a small annual fee to the larger land coop. The exact lands, amounts of land, types of agriculture, and cost to farmer would be negotiable as part of purchasing/joining land coop process. All coop decision making is by consensus. Cress Spring Farm Coop wants Organic Farming to happen on our land. Supporting sustainable land use and wildlife habitat are key principals written into our bylaws.
