Job/volunteer description:
This position manages education and technical assistance to farmers and new organic farmers to
include issues in organic production, field crop rotations, business management, conservation, and organic certification support. This position contributes content and connection for the Marbleseed annual conference and field day content. The Organic Agronomy Specialist supports the mission of Marbleseed by coordinating high quality, impactful farmer education, meeting facilitation, and training designs, as well as researching and sharing information with a wide range of producers, farmer educators, and other allied professionals and organizations. DUTIES
Education & Program Management
Manages key programs focused on organic production and certification
Coordinates and designs farmer technical assistance and project meetings
Assists in the development of other programs and resources to support farmer educational needs
External Collaboration
Coordinates and may create program-related content for website, trainings, publications and social media
Attends farm shows, field days, trainings and conferences, as needed
Plans or presents/ leads trainings on organic and climate-smart farming practices, farm business management skills and/or other relevant topics in collaboration with allied organizations and regional partners
Engages diverse farmer communities (BIPOC, veteran, under-resourced, broad acre, etc.) to ensure Marbleseed educational resources are relevant and accessible
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience developing and managing programs, specifically with broad acre farmers
Experience working in a collaborative atmosphere with internal and external partners
At least 5 years experience farming or providing technical assistance on organic systems and production
Strong interpersonal and listening skills
Strong computer and data management skills
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Formal education in organic agronomy, particularly grains, and field crops
Program evaluation expertise
Salary: $50,000-55,000, commensurate with experience. Salary is for 40 hours/week. Position includes benefits and flexible paid time off. Successful candidate will work remotely but will reside in the Midwest. A language differential of 6% may be offered for multi-lingual candidates.
