Champaign Farmers' Market Poster Contest

  2017 Champaign Farmers’ Market

  Poster Contest:

  Fresh & Local: Right Downtown

Deadline for submission: April 20, 2017

Calling all K-12 artists!

We are seeking submissions for our first annual poster contest to promote the upcoming Champaign Farmers’ Market season. Posters should interpret the theme, Fresh and Local: Right Downtown, and the contest is open to all Champaign K-12 students.

The Champaign Farmers' Market is a Tuesday afternoon food and farm-products only market, held in Downtown Champaign in the Parking lot by the Orpheum Children's Museum and Ko Fusion. The Market runs from the middle of May through the end of October every Tuesday from 3:30pm-6:30pm (perfect to visit after school!).

Winners of the poster contest will be announced May 1. Three grand prize winners will have their posters printed and displayed around Champaign throughout the season to promote the farmers’ market. One winner will be selected from each category: Elementary School (K-5 grade), Middle School (6-8 grade), High School (9-12 grade), to bring the award winners to 3 grand prize winners.

Posters can be submitted at The Land Connection offices (206 N. Randolph, Suite 400, Champaign, IL) or digitally, sending your submission to If a class or school has a number of submissions for hard copy submission, please contact Sarah Simeziane to arrange a pick-up.

Visit our website for more information about The Land Connection and the Champaign Farmers Market:

About the Market:
Products that are sold at the market include vegetables, fruit, herbs, meat, fish, cheese, flowers, grains, baked goods, jam, honey, gelato, and more, all grown, raised or produced within 150 miles of Champaign and sold directly by their producer. The market also features weekly samples, regular cooking demonstrations, and kids' activities. The Champaign Farmers' Market also allows dogs at the market.

The Champaign Farmers' Market also offers a SNAP matching program, to help families who receive SNAP benefits afford fresh, local food. Shoppers who have a Link card can swipe it at the market in exchange for tokens that can be spent with the vendors, and we will match their purchase up to $20 every week! Once a month, we will also offer Triple Link Tuesday, where Link shoppers can get an extra match to help them expand their food budget and support our local farmers.

Shopping local at the farmers' market offers a number of advantages for you, your family and our local community. First of all, it's fresher and it tastes SO much better! Very often, what you buy at the farmers' market was harvested the same morning! This means not only does it taste better, but it's also more nutritious. By shopping at the market, you are supporting your local farmers, meet the people who grow your food, and give them an opportunity to sell more of the food they grow. Plus, when you buy directly from the farmer, that money stays in the local economy and has a bigger impact on the community (every dollar spent at the farmers' market is like $2 spent at a chain grocery store). Finally, buying from your local farmers is good for the environment. Your food doesn't have to travel so far (most of are farmers are from in or very close to Champaign).
