I am very passionate about the cover crop/regenerative agriculture movement that is happening slowly across the United States (Gabe Brown of North Dakota is a leader). Ideally, I would like to have a farm in which there is a combination of grain crops and livestock grazing, mostly on the crop land following cover crop establishment. I would like to maximize the profit per acre and use the animals strategically in the cropping system. My research indicates that a combination of cattle, goats, and chickens is a good start. Grazing animals increases profitability per acre by increasing income and dropping input costs of grain production (cover crop termination and added manure). I also realize that this would be the ideal situation, which is extremely hard to find. I willing to incorporate many different value added practices in order to make the operation work. From growing fruits and vegetables, to agritourism, to using social media, applying for grants, selling seed, and/or running a custom operating business on the side. Whatever it takes! I have had various farm experience over the past 5 years, the most consistent being baling and stacking hay. I have also worked for a small hobby farmer, whose main crop was two acres of blueberries. My role was to help mulch, trim, and irrigate. I also helped plant new bushes in the spring. In addition, I helped cultivate, plant, weed, and harvest his various other plots of vegetables and small grains. I also worked for a grain farmer for a season. His main crops were corn, soybeans, and hay. I was able to run a lot of his equipment, which included plowing, hay raking, rock rake, drilling grain, grain cart, and the combine. Besides his Case IH combine, he had all older JD tractors (4455, 4230, 8440). This was a great experience. The past 2.5 years I have worked for a non/profit, in various departments, which included both computer work and manual labor. I have been working in our facilities department the past year and half, and have learned a lot of tangible, hands-on building skills. In addition, I also helped start our company “Green Team”, which initiated a compost bin and a large garden on site. I am looking for a partner who would want to go into business with me. I am someone who has an entrepreneurial spirit, asks great questions, is well researched, and can make friends with anybody. The ideas are certainly not limited to this post! I am 26 years old. I am from NE Ohio and willing to relocate anywhere in the United States (I put Kansas just because I had to put something) Get in contact with me and let's get this thing off the ground!
