They say that there is nothing like that first breath of warm air after the winter. But I have to disagree. Because there is something like it isn’t there? And the more that I think about it, the more certain I am that there are many things just like that first warm breeze of the year…
It is like the childhood mornings you would wake up to the shimmers of sunlight through your curtains, the warmth on your cheek, the chirping of birds just outside the window and feel the teasing promise of summer, not just intellectually, but feeling it in your fingertips, in your bones.
It is like lying down and stretching out on the floor of your house absorbed by the pattern of the ceiling.
It is like half days of school.
It is like finally having someone slip their hand into your own after having waited so long.
It is like remembering a song you once loved while singing in the shower and finding that you remember every word.
It is like wandering cobblestone streets. It’s like getting happily lost.
It’s like the steady strum of rain while you are reading a good book.
It is your goddaughter’s tiny hand pressed against your cheek in wonder.
It is fresh cut grass between your toes, a long, cool sip of water, wind through leaves, flowing skirts, dirt on cheeks and noses, long strolls, romantic bike rides.
That first breath of spring air is just like so many things. Isn’t that what makes it so wonderful?
Happy spring! (And don’t waste it!)
