To continue with my occasional nautical theme, but slightly backwards, I need to wish all of you Bon Voyage. Now that I have passed the wheel into the capable hands of our new Captain, Jacquelyn, I will now disembark the ship called The Land Connection and follow the ship that is my husband to a new adventure in a different state. While I am excited about the opportunities that our new life will undoubtedly bring, I am saddened to be leaving TLC. I have made wonderful friends here and I very strongly believe in the work that TLC is doing — working with local and regional farmers to help them succeed, but also acting as an advocate for local food and food access. I know this work will not falter when I leave, but I will miss being an active part of it.
While I will be with The Land Connection for several more months in a very part-time capacity, much of my time will be devoted to figuring out how to move Fuzzy from her extremely spoiled outdoor existence to a new, slightly less swank, outdoor experience (she’s only going to have ONE outbuilding to play in, and she won’t be able to spy on us from the back deck).
Since the fuzz bucket hates to ride in the car to the vet (~15 minutes), I am curious to see how she handles the multi-state move. I have decided that I am NOT spending the whole time in the backseat with my hand awkwardly stuck in her cat cage to reassure her. From what I have read, she’ll need to spend the first few weeks inside to make sure she doesn’t run away, and can then have short supervised outside time … um, yeah right … we’ll see how well THAT works … I am not especially optimistic. Please keep your fingers crossed that she settles in well and doesn’t get lost in the new backyard woods.
I will miss sharing my foibles with you! I wish all of you calm seas and smooth sailing, no matter where you are and where you’re going. Bon Voyage!
