Whole Farm Planning for Perennial Crops: Profit, People, and Planet
Led by Keefe Keeley, Executive Director of Savanna Institute, this workshop helps to prepare a road map to turn dreams into reality, allowing you to generate income while stewarding land and building your investments. This workshop teaches sensible steps to take and questions to ask in that planning process. Starting from your goals for lifestyle, family, community, and landscape, whole farm planning works by assessing resources, creating action plans, and monitoring progress toward goals. This workshop will focus on planning woody crop enterprises and finding support as you begin. No experience or land access required, but bring your goals and any aerial photos. The workshop will have hands-on time so you can start to develop your plan and go home with next steps to take.
Establishment and Management of your Perennial Crops: Preparing, Planting, and Presiding
No farms are created equal. Ideal establishment and management practices vary depending on soil type, cropping history, weed type, and end goals. As the perennial polyculture establishment/management experts, Midwest ARS has deployed its full range of equipment/techniques at Vulcan Farm and used this R&D site to hone their implementation. If you want to get your new woody crops off to the best possible start, this workshop is for you. You will get in depth lessons on a full range of management techniques and hands-on demonstrations of essential equipment. This workshop is led by Kevin Wolz, Consultant from Midwest Agriculture & Restoration Services.
