Join us and see firsthand how Doug Hanson and his family have successfully integrated crops and livestock! Hanson Land and Cattle is a forage-focused operation that utilizes highly productive prairie soils and extensive annual and perennial forage sequence along with beef genetics selected to thrive in a forage-based beef program.
We will start the morning off with the Pasture walk at their Danforth 76 acre grazing farm in the morning. The 16 paddock grazing farm uses cool season grasses and seasonal cover crops for grazing. It also uses cover crops from our grain acres for winter feed.
We will transition to Hanson Family Meats, a grazing/grain finishing/ and farm store in Gilman for lunch (sponsored by Illinois Beef Association) and discussion on using by-product feeds and managing an on farm store with on-line retail sales.
