This summer, The Land Connection and the Champaign Farmers Market are fortunate to be working with two young women who are part of the Youth Employment Services (YES) Program here in Champaign. Alysia is working with Taidghin O’Brien as the Outreach Intern and Shayrea is working with Rey Dalitto as the Farmers Market Intern.
Both Alysia and Shayrea will be around the market conducting interviews, taking pictures, and collecting survey data. If you see them at the market feel free to say hello and let them know what your favorite part of the market is.
Alysia
As the Outreach Intern, Alysia is collaborating with Urbana Public Television and the Illinois Nutrition Education Program (INEP) at University of Illinois Extension to create a series of food prep videos that show people how to prepare the dishes that INEP is sampling at the Champaign Farmers Market each week. She is also working on developing social media assets and building campaigns for the market and other food access initiatives.
Alysia will be a Junior in High School this upcoming school year. She hopes to one day be a successful, self-made wedding planner living in New York City. She enjoys art, decorating, and anything else that needs a creative touch. Even though she’s not able to do her dream job yet, she still enjoys helping friends and family with any events they might be planning.
Shayrea
As the Farmers Market Intern, Shayrea is helping with general market operations, working on the social media campaigns for the market, and is conducting interviews with community tent groups and market vendors. Shayrea will be using the research and interviews she conducts to inform a blog series that talks about current happenings at the market and why they are important to the community.
